In CTY’s new Discovery Samplers, students will have a blast building their math, science, and writing skills while exploring three topics in one, three-week summer session. Our samplers follow one theme across three areas of study, making this a great option for students who have a broad range of interests and love uncovering new and exciting material. Families have told us that they would like to explore several topics before committing to a single topic for three weeks, so this is an opportunity to sample different topics in different domains.

Discovery Samplers are open to students who are ready for rigorous academic work, though qualifying test scores are not required

We are offering three Discovery Sampler courses in summer 2024:

  • Decoding Our World for grades 3 and 4 will be offered at Mirman School in Los Angeles, Calif.
  • Summer Sleuths for students in grades 5 and 6 will be available at both Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., and Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
  • And On Being Human for students in grades 7 and 8 will be available at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.

We may expand where these courses are offered next year.

Additional information:

  • Class size for Discovery Sampler courses is essentially the same as for other CTY courses. Students will be placed in a group of 14-18 students. Although the topic and instructor may change each week, students will stay with their same group for all three weeks.
  • Students in Discovery Sampler courses participate in the same activities and are housed in same residence halls as students in other CTY On-Campus courses.
